It seems that diet soda does not have the weight loss benefits that we may have first thought it did. Recent research from the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio has shown that frequent consumption of diet soda and other artificially sweetened soft drinks results in fat gain.
While they may be free of calories, research has shown that people gain more weight when they drink diet sodas than if they drank sugary drinks. This is because of artificial sweeteners contained in the diet sodas.
There is an idea that the artificial sweeteners alter a person’s metabolism, and that they experience a physiological connection between sweet tastes and calories, which drove them to overeat and gain weight.
The trick to losing weight comes down to what you eat, the amount of calories you consume and the amount of exercise you do on a regular basis.
This study, however, was not an elaborate one. Researchers only assessed 474 people. Participants were the elderly from the San Antonio Longitudinal Study of Aging, who were tested with several measures and parameters, researchers said.
Several other studies regarding this matter have found evidence that supports this claim.

Great points. Soft drinks in general can be so bad for your system. The chemicals do not work with your body and it is only “emply” calories. Even if you drink diet drinks – do you really want to all of the artificial sweeteners in your system. I’ve lost over 30 lbs just by eating real food and as much as I want. No diets anymore! http://www.homcookedhealthy.com
